Global Connections for 6th grade Social Studies

We came, we saw, we connected!

The Paramount Academy of the Arts offers a fantastic field trip opportunity for Austin area 6th grade students to connect with their Kenyan peers. In partnership with The Nobelity Project, the historic theatre screens our award-winning documentary “Building Hope”, a powerful film about a child’s right to an education.  Following the 35 minute film, students in attendance participate in a LIVE Skype call with students in Kenya!

The event brings to life many 6th grade Social Studies TEKS, in addition to reinforcing many of AVID’s empowering messages to students.  We would love to fill the audience with as many of your students as possible, for this unique event.

Due to City of Austin regulations, our Spring 2020 event is postponed until further notice.

More about the film: Through challenges and triumphs, Building Hope chronicles the construction of Mahiga Hope High, the first high school for this remote African community, and the connection between a thousand people in the U.S. and an African community working to create a better future for their children.
